    Measure the lower wick before you say hammer

    A long lower tail is not a hammer until the body sits near the high and the prior swing has somewhere to land.

    The upper wick is the distance from the high down to the top of the body, and it records prices that were given back before the close.

    Open and close nearly equal is enough to say doji. It is not enough to treat the bar as a turning point.
